This post I think touches on some elements of the technology industry that are always there in the background, sometimes causing issues but always this presence of aging machinery and cracks being patched up daily. I think about this every now and then whenever a bank transfer takes 4 days or whenever a government document requires printing, scanning, faxing and emailing when it could have just been emailed. I think about it when I see NHS systems with Windows 98 interfaces burning thousands of human-hours a day on the bureaucracy of bureaucracy. https://programmingmadecomplicated.wordpress.com/2017/08/12/there-is-only-one-os-and-its-been-obsolete-for-decades/
